Use These Conduit Caps and Spacers for Perfect Conduit Runs
Hello fellow Electricians, DIY enthusiasts, and tool lovers. There’s a new product I am very ecstatic to share with you and one I plan on using myself. Let me ask you something. Have you ever been a part of an electrical project where you need to run conduit underground? Be it for landscape lighting, parking lot lighting, or anything requiring a slab pour, such as underground feeds or parkade work? If you’ve dealt with this, you’ve probably experienced a few of the common annoyances we all run into. I’m talking about layout issues with pipes moving or debris entering our well-thought-out pipe runs that will make the pull much more difficult.
Read on to discover your new solution. The team has done it again! Let me introduce you to these new products that will surely fix these issues. Of course, my favorite of these new products is the “Slammers” conduit caps and spacers. I want to make a clever joke about POGs from the 90s, but I feel that may not be as relevant anymore.

Laying Pipe the “Old Way”
When I prepare a layout and lay my pipe in preparation for a pour, I always leave the site with my fingers crossed. I hope that when I return to the site, the stubs will be in place, still properly spaced, and intact. I’ve seen many techniques to ensure this over my years in the trade. A popular method I’ve seen is strut and P-clamps to hold the pipes in place. Another popular method is to use a 2×4 and some tie-wire. I don’t find either of these methods particularly reliable. There are too many moving parts honestly. The dirt moves especially when it gets compacted. The other trades present an issue as generally they won’t care and of course the potential of getting the dreaded general contractor that pays no mind to the electrical work.

Let’s slam this issue out of the park and get straight to your new favorite electrical edge, “Slammers.” This work of electrical art is a tough and durable ABS plastic fitting that forces the conduit to stay evenly spaced even when bumped. Available in 3/4″ or 1″ sizes, this “Made in the USA” product fits all schedule 40 metal or PVC conduit. Designed to fit the spacing needed for 4×4 boxes, Slammers Conduit Spacers give you the easiest and safest method for rigid or PVC conduit installation. Not to mention the added benefit of speed. I’ve made rigs before to hold my pipes in place; believe me, slammin’ on a Slammer saves time and stress. Oh, and did I mention they are sold in a 50-pack? They also come in another form available on the Rack-A-Tiers website that boasts an added benefit.

Need Extra Support? Try These Slammers Spacers!
The second version of Slammers gives an extra level of stability. Again, this Slammer spaces the conduits evenly and is made robust with durable ABS plastic. Available in two sizes at 3/4″ and 1″ and sold in a generous 50-pack. The difference between the two is one amazing feature. It boasts a support hole for 3/8″ rebar. This allows you to provide the conduit with maximum support when setting up your stubs. Not many old-school tactics will allow for this level of rigidity when stubbing up the conduit. It’s basically a stake for your PVC or metal conduit. Forget the tie wire, duct tape, or 2×4 blocks and stand out from the rest with an inspector-approved method that keeps you looking professional and saves a ton of time. But of course, one last issue needs to be addressed: the dirt, rocks, and weather that find their way into our pipes and create obstructions preventing a perfect pull.

Protect Electrical Conduit with Slammers Conduit Caps
My last unveil is the Slammers Rigid/PVC conduit Cap. Personally, I usually use burial tape to cover my stub ups and 2-inch tape to create the hold. I’ve also seen people use grocery bags and tape. I even saw someone sit there and use electrical tape to cover the top of ten 1″ PVC conduits. It took all I had to not give him a slam. Sure, it works, but when doing a large number, it’s a waste of time. PVC caps are available as well at most electrical wholesalers. These are a great alternative, but next to a 50-pack of these conduit caps, the savings will be in your pocket. Using these creates a professional look, and being red and blue adds a little “Hey you” to passersby.
