Drill Holes Through Multiple Studs With The Javelin
If you haven’t noticed in these posts, I’m a bit of a lazy guy these days. It’s not that I’m afraid of work (I still do my share of sweating), but let’s say I don’t love it anymore.
I much prefer my time away from the job to my time on it. I guess that’s why I love tools that help me and my people work more efficiently.
For many people, buying tools is looked at as an expense. I look at them as an investment.
Every tool I buy that helps my company save money or work faster pays for itself and if it makes life easier for my people that is more than a financial return that is the future of my company and my retirement fund.
Take care of your people and they take care of you. It’s as simple as that. End of the sermon for today.
This week I give another of those tools that gave me a “Duh!” moment. It is such a simple idea that I should of thought of it.
The Javelin
The Javelin Drilling Extension takes the old job of drilling holes through multiple studs and joist or in hard to reach places and makes it much quicker and efficient. It is the ultimate in drill extensions. With The Javelin, you can easily drill or cut holes as much 10 foot away or through a run of 7, 16 inch centered, studs in one go.
No more drill, move, line up, and drill again.
How It Works
Using The Javelin is K.I.S.S. simple. All that you need comes in a handy kit with the exception of longer pieces of 3/8″ – 16 threaded rod. My people have collect most of what we use from construction scrap piles.
You simply chuck up the adaptor into your drill and then take any piece of 3/8″ – 16 threaded rod place the provided jam nuts in place thread the rod into your adaptor.
Next place the other set of jam nuts at the other end and screw on either the 1/4 inch Hole saw adaptor or the Drill Bit Arbor insert your bit; tighten the set screws and drill.
The entire setup takes less than three minutes and you can save that much time on your first run.
Conclusion
For electrical contractors that work in residential construction or remodeling this is a must have. Add the time saving that you get on straight line drilling to the added benefit of not having to open and patch walls to drill the cross braces, found in the walls of many older homes, and this jewel pays for itself almost before it is unpacked.
The convenient carrying tube keeps all the parts together and makes it easy to transport.
Besides its original, designed purpose of drilling, we have found it is also wonderful for holding Nut Drivers and Driver Bits, to reach distant spots. I really don’t understand why I never thought of this myself. Get one today and see what you have been missing. That is unless you just enjoy sweating and straining.
Until next time keep the coffee hot and the beer cold.
