Every electrician has a favorite tool or two that makes the job just a little less back-breaking. We recently caught up with master electrician Nehemiah Glavin (Instagram: @inpowerelectric / TikTok: @in.power.electric) out in Maine to talk shop, swap stories, and hear which Rack-A-Tiers tools he can’t live without. Get the inside scoop on how the right tools can save time, energy, and maybe even your sanity.
Who is IN Power Electric?
Rack-A-Tiers: Alright, before we discuss some of your favourite tools, could you give us a quick introduction so everyone reading can get to know you?
Nehemiah: My name is Nehemiah Glavin. I’m a master electrician. I live in Maine, and I do commercial, residential and industrial work. I’ve been doing it since 2014. I did an apprenticeship through the union here, Local 567, and right now I’ve got a few big projects, like working at a historical public library.
I’m also working on growing my company – getting a few more employees under my belt and on the social media and influencing game. I’d like to make more videos and content about our daily installs and tools that I like.

Nehemiah: We have a lot of granite here, and it’s very close to the surface, so we have a hard time sometimes getting into the ground. I was on a rocky property before, and I remember trying to drive a ground rod into the ground, and it was an absolute murder. Then I decided to try Sluggo-Ox, and it changed the game. It hits so straight, gives you control, absorbs the shock, and you don’t have to try and hit that tiny little head of the ground rod.
Rack-A-Tiers: How were you doing it before you started using the Sluggo-Ox?
Nehemiah: Before I was literally hitting it with the sledgehammer and then watching it bounce around and then waiting for it to stop moving so I could hit it again. It was such a struggle when we didn’t have that Sluggo Ox.
Pull Coils Solo with Wire Tub
@in.power.electric Introducing my new wire tub from Rack-A-Tiers — because fighting a bird’s nest of wire every day was starting to feel personal. Now my wire pulls smoother than my dance moves (and that’s saying something). No more wrestling matches on the job site! #WireWrangler #RackATiers #ElectricianProblems WorkSmarterNotHarder”#electrician #electricalwork #wirepull #sparky #electricalcontractor #electriciansoftiktok @Rack-A-Tiers
Rack-A-Tiers: A lot of electricians try to find ways to work jobs solo, especially when it comes to residential jobs. Have you found anything that helps?
Nehemiah: For residential, we do a lot of one-man jobs, and these tools that we got from Rack-A-Tiers are a game changer, especially the Wire Tub. You can put a coil in there, and instead of someone reeling it off to you when you’re in the attic, you can literally put it in the Wire Tub, go in the attic and pull it by yourself. So, you don’t have to have a second guy there, and that is a huge, huge help on the small residential jobs. It kind of eliminates needing to have an apprentice there rolling off the coil to you.

Rack-A-Tiers: Wire Tub is great for coils. How are you pulling reels solo? Especially larger reels.
Nehemiah: I’ve been on some jobs where you’ve got to bring all these jack stands and arbors and set them up, and it’s just a mess. Recently, on a commercial job, I forgot my jack stands. Instead of driving back, I tried out the Tug Wise. It was my first time using it, and I slapped it under the wire spool and got to work. There was no setup time. You just put the four screws in and flip it over, and it’s smooth sailing. That thing probably saved me an hour or two having to go back and get my set of reel stands and arbor. It just pulls so smoothly. I can’t believe I haven’t been using it until now.
Rack-A-Tiers: We get a lot of people in the comments saying, “Just use a mud ring.” What do you have to say about that?
Nehemiah: Oh my god, the mud ring is not stable, not sturdy, and it folds on you sometimes. If you’ve got a thousand-pound reel and you use a mud ring, there’s a good chance that while you’re spinning that thing, it’s going to bend and it’s going to fail on you. I’ve tried that method before, and it doesn’t work out 100% of the time, unlike the Tug Wise, which works every time.
Round Multi-Tool Hole Cutter
@in.power.electric ⚠️When the hole’s already jacked up and your hole saw taps out… 🛠️ The Rack-A-Tiers 4-1/4” multitool blade says: “I got this, rookie.” Perfect for recessed lighting, round boxes, and saving your butt on retrofit jobs. 😤💯 🎯 Cuts cleaner than your barber. 💸 Use code inpower10 to save money for snacks at lunch. #RackATiers #MultitoolBlade #Electrician #ElectricianTools #SparkyLife #electriciansoftiktok #milwaukeetools #nothingbutheavyduty @Rack-A-Tiers @SurgeElectricalTraining @The Caffeinated Electrician @Blue collar sparky @Mape Electric @Willytheelectrician @Phoenex Electric LLC @Stevenj120volts @⚡️ SuperSparky ⚡️ @BajoTheSparky @Milwaukee Tool
Nehemiah: With contractors, lots of times when we’re doing recess lighting in the ceiling, they’ll think that making a small hole so they can see the wire is helpful. It actually makes it much harder because now your hole saw with an arbor can’t fit in there. It would fly around and tear up the ceiling. The Round Multi-Tool Hole Saw is perfect for that scenario because it cuts right into exactly where you need it. You don’t have to worry about the arbor not having a place to go in the middle of the hole.
Rack-A-Tiers: What are some other ways of doing that you’ve used in the past?
Nehemiah: I’ve done this trick where you take the size of the hole that you need with a regular hole saw, and you put it up on the ceiling, and you draw a circle. Then you put screws around the inside perimeter of that, and it holds your hole saw in place, but it’s not a guarantee, and it’s just a mess.
Rack-A-Tiers: So the old way of doing it is a mess, got it.

Penguin Puller: The Sleekest Wire Pulling Attachment
@in.power.electric When cable pulling makes you feel like a penguin in a power suit 🐧💪 The Penguin Puller Jr. saves you serious time—no more stripping out long lengths of copper or spending forever taping them up. Just clamp, crank, and pull. Use promo code INPOWER10 for 10% off! Link in bio. #rackatierstools #rackatiers #wirepulling #wirepulls #wirepull #electrician #electricianslife #sparkylife #electricaltools #bluecollar #electricalwork #electricalcontractor #masterelectrician @Rack-A-Tiers
Rack-A-Tiers: You made a great post about the Penguin Puller recently. People love that tool. What kind of jobs have you been using it on?
Nehemiah: Yeah, the job I’m working now has a very long run, and it’s a historical building, so everything we do has to be approved. They don’t want large holes, so we had to go with a minimum size conduit. Before I got the Penguin Puller, we had to tie on our heads, and they had to be extremely perfect and tiny, and it’s hard to do when you’re folding over a copper on a traditional pull on a rope. You get those bulky heads where the strings of copper are kind of poking out everywhere. You have to tape it up, and it never really works out when you’re trying to squeeze it through a conduit that barely fits.
So the Penguin Puller is sleek. All you have to do is strip out the heads a little bit, stick it right in, and it makes it just as small as you can get it. So that’s actually my top tool from Rack-A-Tiers right now because it saved my butt.

Ropematic Pro – Get Perfect Leverage for Rope & Wire Pulls

Rack-A-Tiers: Let’s keep with the theme of pulling wire and talk about the Ropematic Pro for a bit.
Nehemiah: So with the Ropematic, pulling the wire or a rope is so much easier than wrapping it around your lineman’s the old-fashioned way. When you do it that way, you might pinch your fingers or lose the end of the rope.
The best way that I know for pulling a rope and wire if you’re not using a tugger is the Ropematic. It clamps right onto the rope, and you just pull right away. It gives you perfect leverage, so you’re not wrapping the wire around your arm, getting blood blisters on your hands from pulling so hard on a piece of rope. It’s crucial to have in your lineup of tools for wire pulls for sure.
How to Stay Healthy as an Electrician
Rack-A-Tiers: As an electrician, it’s a known thing in the industry that you can only work for as long as your body works. Ideally, you treat your body with care so that you can have a long, fulfilling career and an enjoyable life after that. What are some ways that you try to take care of your body?
Nehemiah: If you have the right tool for the job, you don’t have to struggle and break your body to get the job done. And if you’ve got a tool that makes the job that much easier and saves your body from getting destroyed, that is the key to preserving your body and ability to work.
Electricians love the trade, but to be real, it beats your body up. And if you’re not smart about it, you get busted shoulders, backs, wrist pain, and knee issues. It stacks up pretty fast.
So that’s why we use Rack-A-tiers tools. I mean, they’re innovative and say, “Hey, I can make this better, more efficient, and easier on the body.” It’s not about just convenience, but it’s really about saving your body. All these tools, the Sluggo-Ox, Tug Wise, and Wire Tub, make everything easier. It’s not like the old-fashioned guys who would think, “This is the way it’s been done, this way I’m gonna keep doing it.” It’s about being innovative and making it easier for you and your body to do the job.
What Every New Electrician Needs to Hear
Rack-A-Tiers: Do you have any final advice for the new electricians out there as they start their careers?
Nehemiah: I would suggest that if you get the proper tools for the job, it’ll make your life a lot easier. If you invest in your tools, you’ll never go wrong. It’s never a bad investment. If you buy the proper tools for the job, you’re going to definitely be successful.
Also, just being optimistic and willing to learn. We’ve all failed. I’ve been an electrician for over 10 years, and I still learn stuff every day. You’ve got to be willing to learn. You’ve got to be willing to fail at something. You can’t do something right if you haven’t done it yet. You can’t know something you haven’t learned yet. That is the best mindset to have as an electrician.
The Takeaway: Invest in the Right Tools
